Welcome

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! 100 YEARS YOUNG THIS YEAR!

Welcome to the website of the World's Oldest Local Radio Society!

We've done it! We've hit the 100 years of the Derby Wireless Club, which is a part of the Derby & DARS. It's not been without its troubles, pain, aggravation and upsets - and the foresight of those who were part of the original Club and are no longer with us as time has claimed them. If only they could see us now, eh? Maybe they can. I hope they'd be pleased with what we're doing - and what we hope to do in the future too.

Obviously most of the DADARS activity during 2011 will be taken up with operating the GB1OOD callsign we've been granted (that's Golf Bravo 1 Oscar Oscar Delta), and this will be aired during January, February and March from the Silk Mill Museum in Derby before it closes at the end of March. The Derby Wireless Club website ('www.derbywirelessclub.org.uk') has details for the remainder of the year.

We'll still be using the callsigns GX2DJ and GX3ERD during the year on various events, one of them being the Railways on the Air weekend in September when we hope to be operating from the 'West Shed', the home of the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust which is based in the Midland Railway Centre in Derbyshire. Nights on the Air each month should see us using GX2DJ from our Clubroom.

Plans are being considered as to how we move into the 101st year and onwards - just because the 'DWC' has hit 100 years doesn't mean we can put our feet up as 'DADARS' is only 64 this year so we've got some catching up to do to ensue those following have a further centenary to celebrate in 2047.

And whilst we're celebrating 100 year events, there's a first to celebrate too - the RSGB's 2011 AGM is to be held in Derby for the first time in their history and in recognition of the DWC's 100 years. The RSGB already have details of location, etc., on the 'Members Only' pages of their web site.
